error 80070241

Error 80070241

Error code 80070241 was setting during installation. I tried burning the ISO at slower speeds on DVD+R and DVD+RW with no success. Finally I found Andre's post on the MD5 checksum for the image, my first download was corrupt, the MD5 checksum matched for the second download and installed with no errors. Zack also had Andres MD5 checksum in his preparation for Vista. Thanks to Andre and Zack for assisting in making Vista a better experience.

yes, there is a lot of persons with this error, and they have make the same process to resolved. use nero amd others burner´s but the problem remaines. Can Microsoft tell us how to install vista? thank you

Vitor: I had the same error code during installation. In my case it wasn't the DVD that I made it was a corrupt file in the download. My second download worked without problems.

Vitor, I had the same problems with 4 downloads that failed during install. The whole problem (at least for me) is the Microsoft Download Manager. I checked the MD5 checksum on the first 4 and they were all different (and incorrect)!
Finally I used Firefox to download from the 'provide your own download manager' link on the right side of the download page. I used Nero checksum and it matched!!
I then cut the iso to disk at 2X using Roxio EMC8 on DVD+R media.
Then I copied the whole disk to a local D:\ folder and installed from there. This is 10X faster and prevents the CD-ROM drive from over heating.
2.5 Hrs. from checksum to a running system on my Gateway NX550XL laptop.
I really like Vista :-) !!!!

I just wanted to add: Had it not been for people like Andre Da Costa et al... I would still be swimming UP that proverbial stream (without a paddle!).

The Win Vista Upgrade Advisory said that my PC is fine to Win Vista... I thynk that the iso file is corrupted and i don't know if a new download is the ending solution to resolve the problem; i've order the dvd kit from Microsoft bur don't send me before 28 days!!!!! Maxx, your missing the point of my post! Go back and re-read it. If you get garbage down from the down load, your problems can start at any %. Garbage in -> Garbage out! Use the Nero MD5 Verifier to see if you have a good download! I've been up till 3:30 AM the last two nights!!!
Look at many post on this forum, they tell you the proper MD5 code: - MD5 Value = 0E733AB1A8E8FF9A8684FD3639332773
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Nero_MD5_Verifier.html The help tells you how to use it. Complements of Andre Da Costa.
If it does not match... your wasting your time!!
But, I have a good one now. And I love Vista.

I get the same error message. Checksum is correct. Tried on 2 different computers. Used dvd+r, dvd-r and mount with daemon. Nothing works.

I have this error to.....
why cant Vista do a checksum? fedora core allows yuo to test the DVDs before you begin installation.
I simply do not ahve the patience to download 4GB gain, burn a DVD, adn then to be told that there is a problem with the download.
Why hasn't Microsoft got its act together? The free software Fedora Linux of Redhat tests the DVD before proceeding with the installation.

I'm getting this error arround 24-26% every time i try to install a clean install of the 32bit english vista. 80070241 durring the copying setup files to the local machine. I did an md5 check on the hash and it came out perfect so i'm not sure what's happening. I've burned this copy 2ce now on 2 diffrent dvd-r brands at 4x and still nothing.

Try burning it at 2x and try the install again. Or try an alternative method of installing such as extracting the contents of the ISO to folder in an existing installation of Windows and launch setup from there or use Virtual drive software such as Daemon Tools or NERO Image drive to install the software. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

I am getting this error as well but there is a twist. I actually had luck installing Vista after getting this error only once on the first try. The second try was successful. The problem was after initial install I had so many problems with figuring out driver issues that I thought I had fouled it up with incorrect drivers. I had several blue screens of death and other issues I decided to re-install clean again. Now all I get is the error 80070241 at different points during the file copy. Why would it do this? It worked once so if it was a corrupt file from the download it wouldt have installed at all the first time. Same for the burning process. What the heck is happening?

I have this error repeatedly (about 8 times in a row or so) HDD controller seems right except that the partition is wiped and and I'm booting from CD. the logs say "missing boot manager" but if I formatted that partition, it SHOULD BE missing, along with everything else on that partition.. Trying full clean install to a blank HDD and my backed up files in another partition, but no XP files... winXP got formatted off the drive and format /s doesn't work anymore... go figure.

I try to install Windows Vista Beta2 32 bit version a lot of time on my notebook, on a dedicated partition of 20 gb but at 2% it says taht can't copy a file, with error N° 80070241 Can someone help me? alex from italy

Have you tried alternative methods of installing such as using Virtual Drive software such as Daemon Tools or NERO Image drive? Have you tried extracting the contents of the ISO to a folder in an existing install of Windows, and launch setup from there?
Try reburning the ISO at a low speed, 2x recommended, also do a CRC check on the ISO to find out its integrity. Nero MD5 Verifier is a recommended choice. If setup still fails, its likely a bad download.
I use the one from Ahead Nero http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/Nero_MD5_Verifier.html
Here
are the MD5/CRC values for x86 or x64 depending on which every ISO you downloaded:
x86
- File Size = 3.12 GB (3,355,598,848 bytes) - CRC Value = 0x67E089E0 - MD5 Value = 0E733AB1A8E8FF9A8684FD3639332773 x64 - File Size = 4.01 GB (4,309,368,832 bytes) - CRC Value = 0x48697711 - MD5 Value = E43502D0A15EADD551119D5639859E04
Paste the MD5 Checksum for either x64 or x86 depending on which one you want check in Step 1, Step 2 - Browse to where you stored the ISO on your drive and open it and it will automatically start the varification process and generate the has in the third field, if it matches Step 1, then you are safe. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

I have downloaded the two versions of Vista Beta 2 (32 bits et 64 bits) and Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor. When I run Upgrade Advisor, I get the following message : System Compatibility Status Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor could not run Winsat. System compatibility status could not be evaluated. When I want to install Vista Beta 2 (I tried the two versions and each many times), the install always abort on the first phase "Copying Windows Files" and I always have this message : "an error occured during installation, error 80070241". For information, I don't upgrade my XP, I try to install a clean on a separate partition. -- Arsene Lupin 13

First verify your VISTA download with a MD5 hash check (Nero offers a free program download). You can Google search for the correct checksum result whether you have the 32 or 64 bit version of VISTA and copy and paste it in for the correct result. Verify your burnt DVD image by checking the "verify data" option when you burn your disk (I use Nero). If all of the above checks out, then you can be pretty confident your disk is good. NOW FOR THE CURE!!! In my case, I removed an AMR modem card (PCtel HSP) and the install went fine. I presume there are still quite a few hardware items that cause VISTA to lock up. Try your install with just the necessary essentials (video card) and add the rest of your hardware after you get everything up and running.
Hope this helps!!!

I have read some of the posts on this error, here and on other message boards. I,too, am having the same problem. Where mine seems to be different is that the DVD I am using, I ordered from Microsoft! I didn't download it. I have been trying to install on a 40G drive set as a master on a RAID (it is the ONLY drive on RAID) and have tried on a 120G slave drive. I get the same error. Very frustrating. Should I ask Microsoft for my $6 back?
